Personal Information:
Born in South Dakota, Don Adams has worked in the field of community cultural development since 1971. He moved to Springfield, Illinois, to pursue his Master's degree (1976), following a year of field work in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After a fellowship at the National Endowment for the Arts, he was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown as Deputy Director of the California Arts Council, where he met his wife and professional colleague Arlene Goldbard. Together they consulted, wrote, conducted research and organized nationally and internationally in the cultural development field for over 25 years as Adams & Goldbard, during which time they produced three books: Crossroads: Reflections on the Politics of Culture (1990); Creative Community: The Art of Cultural Development (2001, 2005); and Community, Culture and Globalization (2002). Adams now serves as director of Arts & Humanities Programs for UC Santa Cruz Extension, based in Cupertino and serving Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and southern San Mateo and Alameda counties. |
