On June 17, 2006, San Francisco Oil Awareness, with an immense amount of help from Nate Orman and ArtSF in San Francisco, hosted a (first ever?) peak oil/climate change art show at the ArtSF space at 110 Capp Street. A number of local artists, as well as several from outside the SF Bay area, participated and helped to make the show a success. Attendance was not bad, though of course it is fanciful to dream of thousands more attending any non-profit event. A group of young people from Bulgaria, who mysteriously arrived at the show and stayed around for a spell, have won the posthumous award for having traveled the furthest distance to learn about peak oil. The title of the show was "(Is It) The End of the World As We Know It?" The question remains unanswered, although opinions abound. Those from local peak oil groups who were immensely helpful in organizing the show and making it happen were a committee of four: Gaylord Moore, Allyse Heartwell, Sharon Kulz, Dennis Brumm; and special thanks to Richard Katz for his help beyond the call of duty. |
